Frequently asked questions

How do I open a folder?

Use File > Open Folder (or drag a folder onto the QuickRock window) to load a folder for browsing. You can also drop a single image file onto the window and QuickRock will load its parent folder and jump to that image.

How do I navigate between images?

Use the left and right arrow keys to move between images. You can also click the on-screen previous/next buttons, or enable click-to-navigate in Settings (Controls) so that left-clicking goes to the previous image and right-clicking goes to the next. The thumbnail filmstrip at the bottom lets you click any image to jump directly to it.

How do I zoom and pan?

Use the scroll wheel or trackpad pinch gesture to zoom. Hold the Option key (by default) and drag to pan a zoomed image. Press + and - to zoom in and out in steps, A to view at actual 100% size, or use View > Reset Zoom to fit the image to the window.

What is the Flag system?

Flags are a temporary, in-session way to mark images for batch operations without touching any files. Press K to flag or unflag the current image. Flagged images show a yellow badge. Use the Flags menu to copy, move, or trash all flagged images at once. Flags clear when you switch folders.

How do I tag images with Finder Tags?

Right-click (or hold for a moment with mouse navigation enabled) to open the context menu, then choose Finder Tags to toggle any color tag on the current image. Tags are written directly to the file and appear in Finder immediately. QuickRock needs read/write access to the file's folder for tagging to work.

Can I batch copy, move, or delete images?

Yes. Flag the images you want to act on (press K on each), then use the Flags menu to copy all flagged images to a folder, move them to a folder, or move them to the Trash. Copy and Move destinations are set in Settings > Files.

How do I customize keyboard shortcuts?

Open Settings > Shortcuts (or press Cmd+K). Every action has a Record button. Click Record, then press the key combination you want. Use the search field to find actions by name, synonym, or description. If the new shortcut conflicts with an existing one, QuickRock will ask whether you want to reassign it.

Does QuickRock support OpenEXR files?

Yes, including DWAA and DWAB compressed EXR files that macOS Preview and QuickLook cannot open. QuickRock includes a bundled OpenEXR 3.4 decoder for these formats. It also includes a QuickLook extension so EXR files show a preview when you press Space in Finder — even the compressed formats the system cannot handle on its own.

Why can't QuickRock open a folder I dropped onto it?

QuickRock is a sandboxed Mac App Store app and can only access folders you explicitly open or grant. If you drop an image file and its parent folder can't be scanned, open the folder once via File > Open Folder to grant access. For folders you visit often, add them to Settings > Files > Granted Folders — QuickRock will remember access across launches.

How does the Exposure control work?

Open View > Exposure Panel to show the exposure slider. It applies a live EV adjustment (up to ±8 stops) using the same pipeline as the image display, so it stacks with RGB channel isolation. It's designed for inspecting HDR and EXR files. The adjustment is never saved to the file — it resets every launch.

QuickRock doesn't remember my last folder or position when I relaunch. Why?

By default, QuickRock starts fresh each launch. You can change this in Settings > Recall: enable "Remember last opened folder," "Remember last viewed image," and "Remember sort order" to pick up exactly where you left off.
